Underground Downspouts & Drainage

Protect your foundation by sending roof runoff away from the house through a buried drainage system.

Underground Downspouts & Drainage

Underground Downspouts & Drainage done right

A single inch of rain on an average roof sheds more than a thousand gallons of water, and your downspouts dump it all at a few points right next to your foundation. In North Georgia clay, that water has nowhere to go but down along your basement or crawl space walls.

PPS Waterproofing connects your downspouts to properly sloped underground pipe that carries water to a safe discharge point such as a pop-up emitter, daylight outlet or dry well. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to prevent basement and crawl space water problems.

Roof runoff calculator

See how much water your downspouts are moving

Every inch of rain on a roof sheds about 0.62 gallons per square foot. Slide to see what your downspouts are dropping next to your house in a single storm.

North Georgia often sees 2 to 4 inches in a single strong storm. If those downspouts empty within a few feet of the foundation, that water ends up against your basement or crawl space walls.

FAQ

Underground Downspouts & Drainage questions

How far should downspouts discharge from the house?
At least 10 feet is a good rule, and farther is better on sloped lots or clay soil. Underground lines make that possible without hoses across the yard.
Do underground downspouts clog?
A properly installed system with smooth solid pipe and a good outlet rarely clogs. Clean gutters and gutter guards help keep debris out.
